Make Learning Fun With Nessy’s Parent Pack
As homeschoolers, we enjoy finding new ways to make learning fun! Schooling a child that has both auditory processing issues and dyslexia can be stressful.
Luckily, I found Nessy Reading & Spelling parent pack. It is a great website that helps parents like myself find the best method and provides resources for teaching my child. Here are just a few resources that comes with the parent pack:
- 1 license of Dyslexia Quest. Helps you to understand strengths and weaknesses. This way we are not wasting time focusing on the wrong areas.
- 1 license of Nessy Reading & Spelling. Uses Orton-Gillingham approach while making it fun for kids online! Y’all this is so needed! The focus of the lessons are on phonemic awareness, phonics, blending, sight words, fluency, spelling, vocabulary and comprehension.
- 1 license of Writing Beach. I have another child who struggles with grammar and punctuation as well as writing. This program focuses on descriptive writing, punctuation, grammar, sentence structure, paragraphs and story writing. However, it does it in games that make learning fun and exciting!
- 1 license of Nessy Numbers. Have a child who struggles to learn multiplication and other core math facts? This program is for you! This program focuses on strategies to develop an understanding of core mathematical concepts while also making it fun and engaging!
When I initially heard about Nessy Parent pack!, I hoped this program would work with my child who struggles with dyslexia issues and auditory processing issues. The fun activities that help teach children how to learn is a great way to help him work through these issues.
It wasn’t just my middle son who will gain from this program though. I am able to use it with all of my children who may struggle with math, writing, spelling and/or reading!
We are going to be adding these activities to our regular studies this year along with Classical Conversations! It’s a perfect fit for my boys and I am excited to see the growth throughout the school.
What I have noticed since we were gifted our year with Nessy is that the normal struggles, especially with my kiddo who struggles, have mostly dissipated. One of Nessy’s main goals is to help children who have learning differences.
My middle son can learn and he is super smart. Sometimes the approach for him is different from the norm. That is exactly the goal of Nessy though! To reach kiddos like mine!
How Nessy Reading & Spelling Helps With Dyslexia
Earlier I mentioned some of what is included in the parent pack. I wanted to go into more detail on one specific approach that this program takes. What sets them apart from other programs is the approach they take to teaching reading.
Unlike other programs, Nessy Reading and Spelling is Orton-Gillingham based. If you are unaware of this approach, it has been proven to be one of the best ways to teach your child with dyslexia!
The O-G Approach (learn more here) teaches your child how to decode and break down words into syllables and phonemes, which as been proven to have a high rate of success!
I want to use programs and systems that I find will be beneficial to my children. It is difficult to see your child struggling and not sure how to go about teaching them.
A Very Easy System for Navigating
This is a very easy system to use. Input the name of each child, along with a nickname if you like, and each child has their own panel that keeps track of their progress. All of their information is handy and ready to go when you are ready to pick back up where you left off.
Each child will begin by taking a short test, called the Nessy Challenge, that shows the parent what reading and spelling level the child is on.
This helps the parent know where to start your child in the program. I love this approach. Your child thinks they are just completing an activity and don’t feel pressured to perform because it is a test.
Once your child finishes they can then start working their way through the levels. It reminds me of a layout like a game on your phone! I love how it is so fun and inviting and it keeps my boys busy.
They love using the program because they see it as a game, but it’s actually a learning program. Shhh! Don’t tell them it’s educational! That is why I say it is a great approach to making learning fun!
Nessy Reading & Spelling Is a Great Program For Any Child
