I was asked by Family Christian Bookstores to review Cottonmouth and the Great Gift by C.S Frtiz. Although this book isn’t necessarily a book I would be drawn to, I was excited to review it because I thought my oldest would enjoy it. Here is what Cottonmouth is about:
After Frederick Cottonmouth is given a special mission, he must leave his home for the first time and experience the journey of a lifetime. C.S Fritz invites you to travel with Frederick and his unlikely new sidekick as they embark on a grand adventure with new lands and new characters.
As I mentioned, I was excited to review this because I felt that Bookworm (my oldest) would really enjoy it. However, I didn’t realize this was the second book in the series when I agreed to the review. I immediately ordered him the first book in the series — Cottonmouth and the River. In the first book we were exposed to Freddie who is a real human that is young and scared. There is a great story of redemption that is captured in the first one. Bookworm immediately began reading the second book in the series – Cottonmouth and the Great Gift – after finishing the first book. He absolutely loved it! The stories are written in a way that is a page turner for kids in their tween years as well as the teenagers and their parents, too! I enjoy how the books tie in lessons from the Bible. Cottonmouth and the Great Gift teaches us that the Kingdom of God comes to those who believe and receive it just like children. Bookworm really loves parables in the Bible and is very good about understanding them. This book reminds me of a parable with its wonderful illustration of grace and redemption; yet, it is written in a manner that draws in a child. C.S Fritz showcases wonderful drawing and illustrations and he is a master at story-telling. This is an easy read and isn’t a long book. In fact, Bookworm read it in one sitting in a very short amount of time. However, as it ended he was upset. Why? He has to wait until 2015 for the third book in the series – Cottonmouth and the End. He said that was NO fair at all! 🙂 I think I am going to Pre-Order it for him as an Easter gift though!
