I recently attended the Teach Them Diligently Homeschool Convention in Nashville, Tennessee. You can read more about that HERE. While I was there sifting through all the wonderful and exciting vendor booths, I met Tim Ostermeyer. Tim is an author and a photographer. I actually passed by his booth twice, each time I was drawn in to the books he had on display. I knew before I left that I had to speak with him.
Tim has an entire collection of books for kids. His Fun Adventure Wildlife books contain the following titles:
- Adventures of Rusty and Ginger Fox. This book is about baby foxes and teaches kids about sharing.
- Snowball’s Antarctic Adventures. This is a book about Baby Penguins and teaches kids about exploring.
- Titus & Tina, A Lesson for Baby Tigers. This teaches kids about Bullying.
- Frosty and Snowy’s Arctic Adventures. It is a book about baby polar bears and talks to kids about going after their dreams.
- Snuggle’s Japanese Alps Adventures is a book about baby snow monkeys that teachers kids about planning.
- Donald Discovers True Love is a book about baby ducks who find true love.
- Eagan’s Alaskan Adventures. This is a wonderful book about bald eagles and talks about applying the Word of God.
- Adventures in Australia & New Zealand is a story about baby kangaroos and teaches kids about fear versus confidence.
Snowflake’s Praireland Adventures is a story about Snowflake, a baby horse, and teaches kids about trust and faith.
We have been reading through this series of books, specifically Snowflake, recently for our devotions. Let me tell you, finding books that keep the focus on Christ and teach children about Creation and God are hard to find! It seems like the majority of books you pick up to read some how bring in evolution content for young kids to read. When I finally stopped by Tim’s booth and took a serious look at his books, I was blown away.
This whole series is fantastic! The pictures are top of the line and very professional! Did I mention that Tim is also a photographer? 🙂
When we got back from the convention and settled in, I started using Snowflake’s Praireland Adventures as a devotion. Now, you can read this book straight through as a story book; however, in each of Tim’s books, there are over 220 facts per book, fun story lines, and moral Biblical lessons. I decided to read through it more than once with my kids so that it could sink in a bit better. My kids love books and they also love animals. So they were drawn in to Snowflake’s story.
Snowflake is a baby horse who is struggling with being held back behind a barbed wire fence. As the story progresses, Snowflake notices other horses who are also behind a fence. He grows stronger with the help of the Lord and nourishment from his mother. He looks at the land beyond the fence and longs to be free. I don’t want to spoil the story for you, but it is really a cute story! I also was impressed that the book didn’t just talk about Snowflake, but it brought scriptures into the book that went right along with the story. Linking the story with scriptures helped drive home some important Biblical truths to our kids!
The book also is full of facts about horses in general, which was a welcomed surprise! I have actually decided that since this book is so full of information, we are now doing a mini unit study on horses and taking more of the information out of this book and researching it. The kids are really enjoying it! You have Bible, Reading, History, Science and Character building all in one book! This is a great book for young readers ranging in ages from probably 4-9. However, my oldest is 11 and he has been studying this with my 6 and 8-year-old as well. So to be honest, I would say the books can go from 1-99. 🙂
Here is more on the author:
Tim Ostermeyer is a Master Photographer who has won 250 first place awards for his photography, including 14 wildlife images that are considered to be the best in the world by its inclusion in the Professional Photographer Loan Collection books (best images in world by professional photographers). He has traveled the world for the last 25 years, taking images of wildlife from the Arctic in the north to the Antarctic in the south. He has taken the best images from his travels over these 25 years to place in these 4 children books. Tim’s first book “Adventures of Rusty & Ginger Fox” has 40 great online reviews and sold 480 copies in the first 6 weeks of sales. All of these books have raised letters on the cover, cute story lines, fact boxes with 10 facts of each animal in the book, and a nice moral to the story. Tim will be on a national tour this year visiting all the large cities signing these 4 books with book signings in major bookstores, and book readings in schools, hospitals, and nursing homes. Tim lives in Allen, Texas (a suburb of Dallas).
I give this whole series a 5/5! I love supporting families like Tim who take the Bible serious. What are you waiting for? Go purchase your own copy of this series! You won’t be sorry!
***I was given my copy of SnowFlake’s Prairieland Adventures by the author in hopes I would mention it on my blog. The opinions are mine alone.***
