Having a Quiet Time in the New Year
The New Year is almost here – and it is a time to start thinking about how we can grow deeper in our walk with the Lord!
Spending time in God’s Word is an important habit to have – it takes our relationship with God to a whole new level. The best way to have a relationship with someone is to spend time with them, and reading the Bible is one of the ways that we spend time with God.
Every year, many Christians make a goal to spend more time in God’s Word – but they come up missing by February. Something burns them out. Something makes them stop. But what is it?
I think the reason most people quit is because they get behind – and they feel like they can never catch up. They miss a day, or two – or a whole week – and feel like they have to read the parts they missed in order to catch back up.

We need to remember that we don’t have to read three chapters a day to be a good Christian. There is nothing wrong with reading through the Bible in a year- actually, it is a very good thing! However, there is nothing wrong with taking smaller bites out of scripture. There is nothing wrong with focusing on smaller ideas and concepts.
Quiet Time can be simple. It doesn’t have to look like 15 commentaries and 2 hours of study. It can be a few stolen moments in the morning with a cup of coffee. It can be over lunch break. It can in the evening, while you are winding down from the day. It doesn’t have to have fancy art – but it can if that is what helps you focus on Him.
The point of quiet time is simply that. Focusing on Jesus. Spending time with Him, and learning about His character.
That is why I have created my Write Through The Bible Series. It gives you an opportunity to take time to write and meditate on specific passages of scripture. This month, we are going to be focusing on the Names of God – and I think we will grow deeper in love with Him as we read, write and meditate on the very names and nature of Jesus.
