One of the difficult conversations we will have with our children is “the talk.” You know, the talk where we fumble our words and dance around the bush as we explain the birds and the bees. Personally, I struggle with this subject and anytime it even comes close to being brought up I immediately turn red and don’t know everything to say! I am also a mom of boys so that makes it even more difficult!
This next school year we are studying anatomy in-depth. I’m already bracing myself for the frank questions kids can ask, especially my kids. As much as I try to prepare to answer questions like, “Why do I have this but girls have that?”, I get lost in my thoughts and turn red again. LOL! Basically, I’m dreading this subject and the discussions this subject will inevitably lead. However, not long after I began planning our homeschool year, I was asked to review Passport2Purity. Isn’t it great how God works?
So what is Passport2Purity?
Description from the back of the box says:
“Your child begins the journey into adolescence in a world of sexting, bullying, online stalking and moral defiance. Innocence is under attack, and you cannot win the battle with a single awkward talk or a strict set of rules. The primary defense for your child is a strong relationship with you and with God.
FamilyLife developed Passport2Purity (P2P) to assist you in building heart-to-heart communication with your preteen while laying a foundation of purity that will prepare him or her for the turbulent years ahead. Through the shared listening experience, object lessons and guided conversations of a P2P weekend getaway, you can set your son or daughter on a journey of moral integrity-and strengthen the bond between you.”
The kit that I received is THIS one. This kit includes the CD set, P2P weekend getaway checklist, Travel Journal, and tour guide.
I’m not sure if I was impressed with the content or relieved that it took all the guess-work and planning from me. Either way, definitely a combination of the two!
This set is designed as a one-on-one guide with either Mother-to-Daughter or Father-to-Son. I can feel the weight of the world being lifted off my shoulders because I have all boys! Fortunately (for me) my husband is about to get drafted. LOL! FamilyLife suggests this program be completed over a weekend getaway. This suggestion makes total sense. You and your child are gone somewhere without any distractions and totally focused on God and “the talk.” However, don’t fret if you can’t make this into a getaway. You can also do it at home over several weeks or tweak it to YOUR family’s needs. 🙂
Here is a video about the program:
Talking about purity and sex around kids is difficult for many of us. There are so many ways that the world is trying to desensitize kids from the value of remaining pure. However, God expects us to teach and train our kids according to HIS word, and to teach them to stand firm and unwavering as the world tries to bring them down.
I am excited about this program! I can not express how thankful I am to have this to use this fall with my oldest as we study anatomy. My husband and I are already making plans to take my oldest on a getaway, just the two of them so they can really connect with this material. Also, I want to give you an honest review based on the material and how it was presented by my husband to our oldest son. Again, I am really impressed with the material of Passport2Purity. I am humbled and praise God for steering us into programs like this when planning these difficult discussions. God will always give us the right words as long as we listen! Sometimes He also sends us a helper such as this curriculum!
