This weekend was jam-packed! Shew!!! Today we had church this morning, then this evening we had our Thanksgiving Dinner with Safe Family Ministries and Set Free. Both are ministries that our church supports. For those who have never heard of them,
Safe Family Ministries is a place where women who have been abused can go to. Set Free is a ministry that helps men overcome drug and alcohol abuse. Both are grounded in the word of God with the message…”Whose your Medicine? GOD!!!”:)
This is the first dinner that I have went to with both of the ministries listed above, and let me tell you, what a blessing today was! It was amazing seeing our church come together to help support and love on such wonderful people! We are some fabulous food prepared by the wonderful people at our church, we sang songs of praises ALL our voices lifted together for the most high! We also heard some amazing testimony. My favorite testimony was that of my husband.
You see tonight was most special for many reasons, the food, the praise, the fellowship. However, the ministries really spoke to my heart. Listening to how much so many had overcome and the good that is going on right here, in the very liberal state of Washington, was so amazing. Listening to those who had overcome addiction, hit home. This story in its entirety is not mine but that of my husbands.
was is an alcoholic. His testimony ties into what we studied today during church. It was on Grace and Thanksgiving. If it was not or Gods grace and unconditional love, my husband would not be the man he is today.
You see, God can take the most broken, the most addicted, the worst of the worst, and use that person for his glory! Sometimes the road to get there is bumpy and you wonder if the ride will break, but somehow the roller coaster comes to a stop and there at the end I Jesus waiting with his arms wide open.
Many years ago my husband saw Jesus at the end of the ride, maybe someday I can get him to do some guest blog posts and share his whole story. He took a man who had been through the worst of circumstances, and pulled him out.
He changed him from the inside out. It has been many years now since my husband picked up the bottle. His testimony tonight brought me to tears, I have seen him change and transform from a broken man to a man of God. I have seen him climb his way out of the pit and I have seen both the triumph and the struggle. Tonight was the first night I heard him speak about this in public.
So perhaps this dinner was to bless those who have sought refuge and help amongst these ministries, or perhaps they were there to bless us. I know God brought us to that dinner tonight with big plans.
