Hello friends! I have an exciting new writing curriculum to share with you called Here to Help Learning. Before I continue with this introduction, I must make a confession. I had reservations in reviewing another writing curriculum. I have reviewed some exceptional curriculum, but I have also reviewed run-of-the-mill writing curriculum as well. More so the run-of-the-mill curriculum. However, the more I researched Here to Help Learning, the more impressed I became and the less reservations I had!
My boys are excellent readers. My oldest is a speed reader, but his spelling is hit and miss. My middle is a slow reader, but his spelling is near perfect. My youngest is a fast reader and his spelling is near perfect as well. Naturally, I want them to be equally strong in all areas of reading and writing. Here to Help Learning offers a wide variety of programs to build these skills such we use Paragraph Flight 1. Here is more information on the Flights:
- 3 Flights of Paragraph Writing. Flights 1 through 3 of Paragraph Writing are designed for 1st to 3rd grade
- 3 Flights of Essay Writing. Flights 1 through 3 of Essay Writing are for grades 4 to 6.
- 32 lessons in each flight
Typically, Here to Help Learning is used around two times per week. The first day of the week I used the program, I watched the videos. The videos also included activities that went along with them. The second day of the week, we completed writing assignments. A feature I really enjoyed with this program is that it is completely online. Why is that important? We’re homeschoolers. That means it is portable and doesn’t take up space.
This program has great features like:
- Downloadable PDF files
- Fantastic Videos
- Easy to Use lessons
I want to briefly touch on the videos. I am super picky when it comes to educational videos my kids watch. If the videos are cheesy or cheaply made, we skip them. It’s not worth my time and definitely not worth my kids’ time. Fortunately, Here to Help Learning has excellent videos! They are very well done, super high quality and engaging!
We added Here to Help Learning with our weekly studies. The videos helped in teaching my kids easy methods to remember the writing steps. The lessons have also seemed to help with basic things such as spelling, pronunciation, reading and proper grammar.
My oldest son was in the room while the other two were completing their lessons. Although he reads on a collegiate level, he enjoyed the program as well. Some of the tips were so good that he was able to use them for a writing assignment he completed for his Trail Life USA troop! This curriculum was one he could handle on his own and take charge of. My younger two needed a little more oversight and management.
One of my favorite things concerning this curriculum is that it is Christian based. I rarely see this advertised in a writing curriculum, but when I do, definitely an added bonus! The curriculum encourages the children to memorize Colossians 3:17 – “Whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through Him.” Such a great verse for anyone, let alone children, to recite as they complete their work.
I definitely recommend this program. Writing is not always easy to teach and it can become overwhelming to find the right curriculum. I encourage you to look into Here to Help Learning. Currently, a free one day trial is offered if you would like to check out this program. Also, a monthly subscription of only $6.99 (very affordable in my opinion) will get you all three levels and can use it with multiple children. Definitely another added bonus. 🙂
