In homeschool circles, one question that I often hear is “What math curriculum do you use or recommend?” The decision of which math to use is often difficult for parents. Today, I want to share with you a wonderful option from GPA LEARN. Great Parents Academy (GPA) developed a wonderful web-based math program called GPALOVEMATH.
GPALOVEMATH is an online math curriculum for grades Kindergarden to 5th grade. It is a fun sequenced math that will really engage your child! With this online program kids can progress, back up and repeat lessons, and really just move at their own pace!
There are about 150 lessons per grade that meets or exceeds current math standards for public, private, and homeschool kids. There are three different methods GPA uses to reach and teach kids math – Learn, Engage, and Motivate. One thing that is nice about this program that other online math programs seem to lack is a reward system.
How we used the program?
Well I hate to mention this again in another review BUT this program could not have come at a better time. When we moved, the movers unpacked all 144 boxes of books and stacked them in the school room. The books filled homeschool room, prohibiting me to walk through it, let alone find the math curriculum books we were using. I also didn’t want my children to go without math until I dug out the books. God knows our needs well before we do! As I stared into the room of eternal knowledge, I decided to do what any parent would probably do when feeling overwhelmed – check my email. That’s when I saw the email with the login information for GPA LEARNS’s GPALOVEMATH online curriculum! Once I got it set up, my math worry disappeared like my kids when it was time to do chores! The kids could all use my computer and still keep up with their studies!
Since GPA LEARN GPALOVEMATH online curriculum goes from K-5th grade, I was able to sign all three of my kids up for an account. My oldest is doing 5th grade math, my middle one is doing 2nd math, and my youngest I put into 1st grade math.
The first one to try the program was my middle son. He is eight and would be in 2nd grade if public schooled. He was so thrilled to get to do math on Mommy’s computer! The first day he completed lesson one and wanted to go right on to another lesson, so I let him. At the end of the lesson he was given one of his rewards! He got two extra stories at bedtime. My middle one is so easy to please and that just absolutely made his day! He also loves reading and loves story time. The whole time he was doing his lesson he had an audience – Nemo (my six-year-old)! This motivated Nemo to want to do his own lesson!
All the boys have absolutely loved completing the lessons presented by GPA LEARN! My oldest has been going through a stage of lack of emotions when it comes to school work. LOL! He will do it but he isn’t jumping up and down anymore. SNIIIIF!!! However, this curriculum has rekindled that excitement that has been lost. He would ask to do not one lesson, but two lessons and sometimes three! Needless to say, he has also enjoyed the GPA LEARN online curriculum as well.
The lessons are very well-organized. They begin with instructions that are presented by animated characters. The characters are different for each of the three levels we used. They become more age appropriate. After the instructions, the kids are given a chance to go through lessons and see what they learned. Finally, there is a test at the end of each lesson. We loved it!
