How to Transform Your Prayer Life

This month we have been studying the importance of creating a War Room in your home. I shared several tips like creating a Prayer Wall and Scriptures to include in your prayers. I wanted to focus on prayer a little more. This is a topic that can be discussed no matter the season we find ourselves in or the storm we are facing.

Do you feel like you’re prayer life is stagnant? Maybe it needs a little spark or a transformation. It is easy to feel like you are stuck in a rut, but know that with a little change you can drastically improve your prayer life! I will share some essential habits that can transform your prayer life fast!

5 Ways to Improve Your Prayer Life

Get Up Early

Life can be hectic! I find that by waking up 15-30 minutes earlier gives me the peace and quiet I need to dive into God’s Word. Starting the day off in prayer and scripture reading gives me the energy and drive to make it through the rest of the day. If you’re unsure what to read, try reading a short devotional to get started, pray for God to lead you, or you can do as my husband occasionally does and just open your Bible and begin reading and see where God leads you. Whatever method you decide, do this consistently for one month and you will notice a grand habit-forming. If you are not an early bird, then make time 15-30 minutes prior to bedtime or sometime throughout the day.

Memorize Psalms

Memorizing Psalms is an excellent way to recite Scripture. The verses are short and the author was specific in his prayers. This is a great way to stay focused on God’s Word throughout the day. Write them on index cards or scrap pieces of paper and put them in your pocket to memorize. Here are a few of my favorites:

  1. Your word is a lamp to my feet And a light to my path. Psalms 119:105
  2. Delight yourself also in the Lord, And He shall give you the desires of your heart. Psalms 37:4
  3. He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High Shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty. Psalms 91:1
  4. Before the mountains were brought forth, Or ever You had formed the earth and the world, Even from everlasting to everlasting, You are God. Psalms 90:2
  5. I will praise You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made; Marvelous are Your works, And that my soul knows very well. Psalms 139:14

Make Time

Jesus often withdrew to solitude to pray. We need to do the same. Stop what you are doing, put down the phone, turn the tv off and spend some alone time with God in prayer, scripture reading/memorization or reading a devotional. Spending time in the Word will help transform your prayer life.

Go Deeper In Scripture

When you feel you are reading a Scripture and not taking much away, try to go deeper. It allows me to take a scripture and break it apart to see what it truly means to me and how to apply it to my life. I write down my thoughts and feelings from what I’m reading. By doing so, I gain a new perspective, even if I’ve read that particular verse a hundred times over. One method you can use is the S.O.A.P method.

  • S: Scripture – Write the scripture.
  • O: Observe – What did the scripture mean to you? What stuck out?
  • A: Apply – Apply what you observed in the scripture to fit your life today.
  • P: Pray – Write out a prayer based on what you read and how it applies to your life.

This simple SOAP acronym will really help transform how you read verses and let you go deeper in prayer! You can do this with any Bible verse!

Also- you can join us at my Journal Through the Bible Facebook group. I host a study EVERY single month where we WRITE out the scriptures. This is a method that I have personally used along with S.O.A.P & other Bible study techniques for years! Check out some of our studies!

Thank God for Blessings

We have so many things in our lives to be thankful for! A roof over our head, food on the table, family, a job, changing of the seasons and the list continues. Instead of jumping right into prayer, take time to thank God for all the amazing things He has given you. If you recently received a raise, praise Him for the amazing financial blessings. No matter how big or insignificant you believe the blessing to be, He is always worthy of our praise. We so often pray for help and guidance, and if we take a minute to thank God for all the amazing things he does for us, we might be amazed how our relationship grows stronger. We will begin to acknowledge the things we often overlook and realize how great God’s love is for us.

Faith Friday’s Intro

While I am here I wanted to announce an exciting new addition to my post schedule! I will be sharing a Faith Friday post each week – just like the one above that will help you in your walk with the Lord. Printables and freebies will occasionally be featured as well as the Bible study pertaining to the post.

I will also be starting a link up! I will be hosting a link up of other bloggers right here! You will find posts concerning Christian Living, Marriage, Faith Walk, Theology, Homeschooling and Parenting, just to name a few. You will not find anything that contradicts the Word of God or politically driven (I think the media has covered that enough!).

If you’re a blogger reading this, and would like to link up, family friendly posts only and refer to the above paragraph regarding what is acceptable.

To all my amazing readers, we start the link up next week on September 15th!

How can I pray for you this week in my War Room? Share below or contact me privately if you don’t want to put it in the comments.
