Classical Conversations: Cycle 3–Games and Videos!

I shared my Ultimate List of Books for Cycle 3 a few weeks ago. However, are you ready to really make history come to life? Well, now you can with games and videos! These are some amazing resources that I’ve found that help bring a whole new understanding to history by utilizing these fun activities that parents are sure to love, too!

Card Games

All kids love card games, so why not have your cake and eat it, too? Take them to the next level with these fun and educational trivia games.

Educational Trivia Card Game– fun for the whole family with hard and easy trivia questions!

Timeline American History– test your knowledge with these skills! (ages 8 and older)!

Learn USA History!– Trivia cards to learn about all the best moments in US history!

Scrambled States Of America– this is a great game, similar to the book that will help your younger ones learn the shape of the states, names, capitals and more! 

Professor Noggin’s The Fifty States Special Edition Educational Card Game. This is a great game but I also really like this set from Professor Noggin that has History of the US, Civil War, and American Revolution!

Top Trumps– Don’t surprised, this isn’t about the 45th President. A great game for those who like Trivia! Has great engaging facts and information to help learn your history facts! 

Histories Mysteries Card Game– this is a rummy-like game full of intriguing subjects like big foot and the loch ness monster!

Kid Galaxy White House, U.S. Presidents Flash Cards & Educational Play set– check it out. Seriously! This set is pretty cool! Comes with real white house rooms, presidential flash cards, play figures and more!

Drive Through History: American History Special Edition– Drive Thru history videos are wonderful! They contain a lot of engaging information that is factual and relevant. This video series tells history in a unique way by traveling around from place to place where the story takes place. Some things you will learn about in this set is Soldiers, Jamestown, and Heroes of Virginia, New York, New Jersey, and Washington’s Warriors! 

Disney’s American Legends– I know some are not Disney fans but this is a great video on America’s legends! Perfect to add in to cycle 3! 

This is America, Charlie Brown: The Complete Series– join Charlie Brown as he takes you through history from the Mayflower to space exploration! Charlie Brown is a timeless classic! This is a fun way to bring American History to life with a character your kids know and love.

Sergeant York– the story of a WW1 hero who captured his German position.

Flyboy– Interested in flying? This is a story about several young Americans who train to be pilots before WW1 for the French army. 

War Horse– Watch this story of love between a boy and his horse during WW1.

Chariots of Fire– Watch the story of 2 runners headed towards Olympic glory!

Cinderella Man– A story of a boxer’s struggles during the Great Depression.

Seabiscuit– this is a classic Great Depression movie documenting an underdog racehorse!

Liberty’s Kids– this animated series is perfect for kids!  We have had this set for years and LOVE it! 

Inspiring Heroes– This entire set is FANTASTIC! Your kiddos can watch about our heroes from the past! This video series is so engaging! My kids all love them! There are many DVDs in the set Abraham Lincoln. William Bradford, Harriet Tubman and many many more! 

Hacksaw Ridge– a must see for teens!  I actually have a unit study that goes along with this move in my store. This is a true story an army medic and conscientious objector  during WWII.Desmond Doss saved 75 men without firing or carrying a gun.

Hidden Figures– Another movie for teens on up. This movie is based on a true story about the unsung heroines who helped calculate the orbits for the space program. I also have a unit study in my store for this movie as well! 

The Boy in the Striped Pajamas– this is another one that is a MUST see when studying WW2. I also have a unit study available to go with the movie in my store.

Video Games

Democracy 3 is a video game that can help older children to understand how the executive branch of the government works. It also helps teach the differences between American government and others, such as Australia, Canada, Germany and the UK.

PBS Learning Media– Pick your game- there are tons of choices!!

Smarthistory– learning Art History? This interactive textbook will bring the lesson to life!

Branches of Power– an interactive experience of learning what it takes to make laws.

Historypin– works best for middle and high school by allowing people from across the world to come together and collaborate, while discussing about their history. This is a GREAT way to teach your kids about different societies and cultures!

Argument Wars– a great way to teach kids about the judicial system! Covers ethics, the constitutions and the art of argument.
