Here is the letter that my husband and I wrote for the kids….they will get them tomorrow 🙂
Dear Bookworm, Turtle, and Nemo,
First off I have to tell you 3 that you are ALL very special! I know that you are filled with love for each other, love for Mommy and Daddy, and most importantly your love for Jesus; and I know that he lives in your hearts. He lives in Mommy and Daddy’s, too, so that makes us REALLY special! Oh wait! Before we continue, allow us to introduce ourselves. We are Anna the Angel and Eli the Christmas Elf.
We need to let you know something important. Sometimes we hear about this naughty and nice list in order to get Christmas gifts, but that list isn’t true. You know that Santa, while fun, isn’t really going to bring you gifts. Neither Anna nor I or your Mommy and Daddy will not have a naughty list. I don’t have a naughty and nice list. We believe that it is important that you learn to obey because Jesus said “Children, Obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right” Ephesians 6:1. While Jesus wants you to learn to obey, he also gives us grace and teaches us forgiveness when we make bad choices. Sometimes we make a wrong choice and choose to sin, and when we do when we confess that sin, and ask Jesus to forgive us and he always does. That doesn’t mean we should TRY to sin, it just means when we do, he loves us so much that he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins. Jesus gives you grace and he loves you still! Sometimes your Mommy and Daddy give you grace too, like when you have disobeyed and deserve to be disciplined but they give you another chance, giving you grace like Jesus.
Your Mommy and Daddy know that kids are not perfect. We know that you guys are not perfect, and neither are we! However, Jesus loves you all the time and so do we. Christmas is a wonderful time and so is the Advent Season. We give gifts at Christmas not because you are on the “nice” list, but instead, we give you gifts to remind you of the gift of Jesus. Jesus came to us a baby born in a manger. He grew up and became a man who spread the love of Christ to others and he gave up his life on the cross as the ULTIMATE GIFT to all of us. So at Christmas when we give gifts it is a symbol and reminder of the unselfishness of Jesus who was born as the very best Christmas gift of all. Another reason we give gifts and how the “Santa” thing came to be was because once there lived a boy whos name was Nicholas, you may have heard him called St Nicholas. St Nicholas gave to the poor and those less fortunate and truly loved being the hands and feet of Jesus here on earth.
So to help you learn more about grace and more about giving we get to spend a lot of time together the next month. Both of us are very excited and we are going to help you learn about grace when you don’t deserve it. Since it is December 1st and the month we start celebrating Advent, we thought we would visit with you guys until December 25th.
Anna says Eli the Christmas Elf tends to be a bit naughty. He has had the rules explained to him many times and also had grace explained to him many times when he gets into trouble. He always chooses to sin and be a stinker. He knows that is why Jesus came…to rescue him because he has sin in his heart. He is beginning to learn but I thought if he visited you this month that Anna and you kids could help teach him some more about the way Jesus loves us even when we sin. I know you three are learning that you get to obey and love God because He first loved you sooo very much! I hope that with Anna here and the lessons we learn that all of you can believe Jesus and know that you can make good choices too because Jesus loves you all so very much!!!
Anna comes to us as an Angel to help all of you and Eli the Christmas Elf learn more about God and his son Jesus. Anna is going to help us during Advent. Advent is where we wait…on the coming of Jesus. Meaning we wait on the day we celebrate his birthday! During this time Anna is going to try and help Eli and you 3 understand more about good choices and grace. Also she is going to have some special projects for all of you to do to share the love of Christ with others. We are called to be the hands and feet of Jesus. So it is important to learn to obey but it is also important to learn to serve.
Anna is going to try and catch you all serving each other, being kind to each other, and living like Jesus Christ wants you to. We know you can do it because we care! Do ALL things through Christ who gives us strength!
I hope you all enjoy Advent and the Christmas Season and you make ALOT of memories you will treasure forever!
Mommy and Daddy say they love you!!!
