5 Instant Pot Hacks!
I’m sure by now you know I am totally obsessed with my Instant Pot (aka Magic Pot)! The Instant Pot makes meal preparations so much easier and creates a precious commodity that we all know is priceless – time.
As a mom, I just never seem to have enough time. If only there were a few extra hours in the day, right?
Not long ago, I shared a post describing how to use the Instant Pot. While I loved that post, I thought I could give a few extra tips that I’ve learned as well. I wanted to share these 5 hacks that will help you appreciate the Instant Pot!
1). Although the Instant Pot makes a huge amount of food in a very little time, there are other size options available before you purchase the wonder machine. For example, 5-quart, 6-quart, and 8-quart options are available. Things to consider is the tempered glass lid isn’t always available with the Instant Pot. I tell you this because you will need a tempered glass lid to sauté and heat food. (Don’t buy your Instant Pot until you do your research bc there are a ton of options!)
(2). Cleaning tips are essential in the upkeep of the Instant Pot. As with any kitchen gadget, it’s imperative you maintain the cleanliness of all parts that come in contact with food. The lid is obviously one of these items constantly in contact with food and hot steam. Clean the lid with warm soapy water.
The steam release, float valve and exhaust valve on the lid can be removed as well. Flush these items with water to remove any food particles and residue. The seal also needs to be rinsed after each use.
After a time the seal may begin to smell like old food or deteriorate, so purchasing a new seal is recommended. Amazon has several Instant Pot essentials. The seal can also be cleaned with vinegar, baking soda, and hot water.
I always buy a few extra and have them on hand just in case because I don’t ever want to be in a situation where I can’t use my Instant Pot. I seriously love it that much.
(3). Cooking time is actually a bit longer than some recipes state due to the fact the Instant Pot requires anywhere from 10-20 minutes to warm up and 5-10 minutes to cool down. If a recipe states a meal has a 5-minute cooking time, that means 5 minutes after the Instant Pot has reached maximum heat.
In my experience, the steam feature heats the quickest. Also, soups are so quick and incredibly delicious. Did I mention homemade vegetable broth?
4). Desserts like cheesecake can also be made in the Instant Pot! Yes, you read that correctly. This is why my husband calls the Instant Pot the Magic Gadget. This kitchen gadget is wild with options.
In order to make the cheesecake, a wire rack is needed, which normally comes with the 8-quart Instant Pot. Additionally, a 7 to 8 inch spring form pan (depending on the size of Instant Pot) is also needed to make cheesecake and the spring form pan can be purchased from a variety of stores.
The varieties of cheesecakes are boundless. A peanut butter cup cheesecake is mind-blowing and it literally takes approximately 40 minutes after prep and heat time to make. The cheesecake is absolutely delish!
However, a nut crust is absolutely delightful and usually tastes best because the Instant Pot does not brown the crust.
(5). I’m sure by now you know unusual items can be fixed. Yogurt can be made in the Instant Pot and we all know yogurt is a great option. Not only a great option, but homemade yogurt is healthier than store-bought yogurt.
Although hard-boiled eggs aren’t an unusual item, it is somewhat unusual to boil them in the Instant Pot. Do you have trouble peeling the shell off the hard-boiled eggs? Try boiling them in the Instant Pot. The eggs peel with ease compared to boiling them on the stove top.
Although the Instant Pot is fantastic, these 5 tips will make your life easier. Whether it is soup, steak, lasagna or cheesecake, the Instant Pot can virtually take on any recipe.
Have fun exploring all the amazing Instant Pot recipe that there are out there, because trust me…there are a ton! People have even started to make wine in their Instant Pot as well! Seriously, is there anything that the Instant Pot can’t make?!
